The Vulture Mothers is an augmented reality animated sculpture which is part of a larger multi-media project combining scientific and sociological research with animated symbols drawn from pre-Christian European mythology depicting animals as magical beings who both heal and harm their human neighbors. The Vulture Mothers project presents the species as primary actors of decay but also of re-birth and renewal.
About the artist
Meredith Drum is an interdisciplinary artist working with video, animation, installation, augmented reality, and various modes of public participation. She is influenced by cinema history, climate justice, swimming in the ocean, feminism, multispecies anthropology, cultural studies, walking in the woods, science fiction, riding bikes with loved ones, contemporary visual culture, and her family, friends, and cats.
