Vultures, abominated and venerated by human civilizations across histories and geographies for consuming and cleaning the dead, are the only animals on our planet who can digest diseased carrion without getting sick and without spreading sickness to others thanks to the powerfully corrosive quality of their stomach acids. Vulture Veneration is a sacred space to honor our agents of life beyond death, a space where visitors may recognize, measure, and prepare.

It is a multi-part work: an AR, a video loop and a small series of fine art prints. The moving AR object depicts a standing metallic turquoise lion/ess moving and shaking its head, as if the figure wants to shake off the large metallic splinters that condense around its head.The work refers to the sleeping lion, a bronze sculpture by sculptor C. D. Rauch from 1828, which was placed on a grave monument by K.F. Schinkel for the Prussian General Scharnhorst at the Invalidenfriedhof in 1834.

Is it ethical to cage virtual creatures, which can be said to have originally been locked in a cage (called a monitor), for sale in stores? This work lets you purchase an ownership of a pet and release it from its cage using your smartphone.

In Search of Ideas (2021–2022) is a self-playing game exploring the Jonas Lund Token universe, following the 3D version of the artist walking around the virtual space looking for his animal friends. The path-finding AI that controls how the artist moves has been programmed to search for animals. The weather and time of day are synchronized with its current location. The animals are representatives and symbols of the JLT universe. Here we show the Deer.

Animal()City is inspired by the ghostly presence of foxes roaming the city at night – a common sight in Berlin today – evoking echoes of a pre-industrial era while drawing attention to a layer of the city that is completely invisible in everyday life. In these moments we witness animals and plants forming their own realm, and the city having a life of its own, acting like an entity, a ghost at times. Encounters with wild animals in the city make this parallel identity momentarily tangible, making us part of these ‘non-human’ networks while projecting ideas of dystopian, dehumanised cities of the future. The city can also be read as analogous to the Internet. Just as we are divided into threads and channels by platforms online, we also live in multi-layered structures that are haunted by sinister bots and AI agents.
